Born into a musical family, Ludovic Proulx joined the Quebec’s national school of violin making at the age of 17. While in school, he was noticed by Olivier Perot, luthier in Montreal, who offered him an internship and then a full-time position in his team. For a period of 5 years, he learned how to maintain, repair and adjust violins, violas and cellos according to the highest quality standards. For a few months, he worked with Michèle Ashley in the making of her cellos as a subcontractor and developed his discipline and knowledge of repair with Claude Macabrey, luthier in Lyon, France. Since 2013, Ludovic makes high quality violins, violas and cellos. He opened his own store/shop in 2015 in Laval before to move to Quebec City in 2019. He’s a member of the Violin Society of America since 2017 and a member of the Maker’s Forum since 2015.
This cello from 2018 is a prime example of Mr. Proulx’ high quality work. Rustic in character but powerful and colorful in tone, this is a cello that would match a high level player or advancing young musician.
