Commission

Commissioning an instrument is a perfect way to find an instrument that fits you, physically, aesthetically, and tonally. At Sixth Generation Violin, we have an exciting and detailed process to make sure that we can build you the instrument of your dreams.

FIND YOUR PERFECT MATCH

All our hand made instruments are constructed using our special No Form method, and utilize our special varnish and preparations to give our instruments a distinctive, well-aged look. They are full of character and beauty but incredibly easy to play and always have a strong and well balanced tone that speaks easily.

Asymmetric Viola

The Frirsz Asymmetric Viola- in a class by itself! Pioneered by Nicholas Frirsz, our violas are specifically designed to maximize the air space in the body for incredible, deep tone, particularly on the C string. At the same time, shortening the string length and adjusting the shape of the treble/playing side of the instrument allows for comfortable playing and shifting. Combined with our industry leading Perfect Sixth Fit™ System, the result is an aesthetically pleasing viola that punches well above its weight, but will shock you with how easy it is to play!  We guarantee it!

Why Commission an Instrument?

Custom Sizing, Models, Fittings, and an instrument made with your vision in mind

You are the first and most important owner- a new instrument is like a baby, it needs to be trained to find its voice, and it will open and grow with you.

New Instruments made by professional makers appreciate in value with time. That means that not only can an instrument be a treasured friend and partner, but it can also be an investment or an inheritance to pass down!

We create only a few instruments per year, so selection can be limited.

HOW OUR PROCESS WORKS

We go through a detailed interview process to determine your likes and dislikes.

Next, we use a unique measurement process based on your arm length, hand size, and any other relevant factors

We gather all the information, and determine the proper model, size and string length for you. We are confident that our process will result in the most comfortable instrument you have ever played.

Once we have agreed upon the path forward, a contract and deposit can be placed to get work started.

Final payment is due in two parts: 1) 1⁄2 upon completion of the instrument and, 2) 1⁄2 upon pickup/delivery. Trade-ins can be accepted, and we are always willing, ready and able to work with you in any way we are able to allow you to find the instrument of your dreams.
